CryptoMines: Final transmission // all channels open

from: the team // to: every commander

If you’re reading this, you were there. Maybe since 2021, maybe since last week. Either way, you were part of something we still can’t fully explain.

Legacy was the peak. Not just of our story, of a whole era of web3 gaming. A hundred thousand commanders a day. People set alarms for the Midnight Bell. They named fleets after their kids, their dogs, the people they missed. They talked about sectors like they were real places. For a stretch there, it felt like we’d built something that would last forever.

It didn’t. The winter of 2021 took it down hard, and real people got hurt. We’ve never pretended otherwise. Then something happened that almost never happens in this industry: you came back. Reborn. Arena. Tap-Tap. Relive. Every signal we sent into the dark, you answered. You forgave us before we forgave ourselves.

Here’s the truth, straight, because you’ve earned it: keeping the sector alive costs more than it gives back, and it has for a while. We kept the lights on anyway, longer than any spreadsheet said we should, because turning them off felt like losing the place. It took us too long to see that the place was never the servers. It was always you. We gave this world everything we had, for as long as we had it. The last thing we can give you is an honest ending. This is it.

We’re landing the ship properly, while we still can. Lights on, doors open, time to say goodbye. The fleet logs are still there. Every deployment, every extraction, every loss, every 23:55 alarm, every one more run at 3am. None of it needed a server to be real. None of it goes away when the lights do.

Somewhere out there, someone paid a bill with ETERNAL the month it mattered most. Someone met their best friend in a raid channel. Someone still types o7 out of habit. That’s what we built together. Not a game. A place people are from.

We won’t pretend we know what comes after this. But space is patient. If the winds ever change and there’s a way to light this place up again, you’ll be the first to know. Keep your alarm set.

Thank you for every expedition. Thank you for coming back. The CryptoMines team

You used to set
alarms for this

Legacy. Reborn. Arena. Tap-Tap. Relive. Five years, one universe. And every night at 00:00 UTC, the Midnight Bell rang and the whole sector held its breath.

Pancho has one more
thing to say

Pancho, the small white robot with a green visor, standing in a warm hangar and waving
Pancho, the Oracle. Five years of waving commanders in. This time he’s waving goodbye.

Oracle log, final entry. I ran every projection of how this ends. Not one of them had you in it, coming back again and again. That was the only number I never learned to predict. So I will not call this one either. The odds of these doors opening again are small. They are not zero. Powering down now. The universe remembers you. It always will.

o7, Commanders.
